End corporate welfare
The General Assembly likes to substitute its
wisdom for that of the free market by offering tax incentives to lure
big companies to North Carolina. Not only is this bad economics, it's
a slap in the face to the thousands of small business owners who must
compete with the tax subsidized big boys. There's a better way to have companies flock here.
Have an excellent education system, have good infrastructure, and have a low tax and regulatory
environment.
Institute a moratorium on the death penalty
North Carolina's use of capital punishment is broken. While some
perpetrators are truly heinous, the risk of killing a prisoner who
is not guilty is simply too great.
North Carolina should end the use of the death penalty.
End the practice of forced annexation
North Carolina is one of only
a handful of states that still allows the use of forcible annexation
of property. Any municipality in NC can decide it simply needs a
bigger tax base and it can force the residents of an area outside its
city limit to become part of the city. The people being annexed have
no voice in the matter. Absolutely none. Forced annexation must
stop.
Empower parents to decide how to educate their children
Education is way too important to leave in the hands of Raleigh
politicians and bureaucrats. Parents need more options on how to
educate their children. I'd start by working to remove the cap on
charter schools. Then I would work to implement either a program of
vouchers or tax credits to free parents from the grip of the government
school monopoly.
As a Libertarian, I hold one core philosophy. You should be free
to live your life as you see fit as long as you do not harm another
individual. Government serves only one purpose. That purpose is to
protect each person's right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness.
I hope you will consider casting your vote for me on November 2. I
am committed to liberty for every North Carolinian.
