A Message from the NC Libertarian Party

The Libertarian Party is one of three official parties recognized by the state of North Carolina.   A political party receives this distinction when they file a petition with signatures (somewhere near 100,000 are required) or if their candidate for Governor or President receives 2% of the vote in the general election.  The Libertarian Party of North Carolina filed the signatures to get on the ballot in 2008 and our candidate for Governor, Michael Munger, received 2.85% of the vote, keeping us on the ballot automatically through 2012.

Now, our candidate for Governor, Barbara Howe, needs your help.  In 2008, Michael Munger debated Pat McCrory in a debate hosted by UNC-TV and he debated Pat McCrory and Bev Perdue in a debate sponsored by WTVI, WSOC-TV and the League of Women Voters.  I guess the Democrats and the Republicans are afraid to keep debating Libertarian candidates because the debate hosts this year have not invited Barbara Howe and claim to have always used a 10% polling inclusion criteria, a claim that is simply not true.

Barbara Howe has been polling between 7 and 9% in multiple polls and as high as 13% with independents and 21% with people who self-identify as Hispanic.  Voters want to hear from Barbara Howe!

Please take a minute to contact these debate hosts to let them know you want to see Barbara Howe in the debates.  If you email them all at the same time, use BCC otherwise your email might get sorted as spam.  The last two are web forms but you should be able to copy and paste your message in there fairly easy.

Don’t stop there though.  If you can, make yourself a reminder and email them every day or every other day.  With November 6th quickly approaching, there is no time to waste!  Although our efforts are urgent, please remain respectful and polite in your emails with these individuals and organizations.  Supporters all across the state will be coordinating efforts and together we can fight for inclusion.

If ultimately we fail to get Barbara Howe invited to the debates, we should not give up hope.  Both McCrory and Dalton are failing to generate excitement and people are hungry for a third option.  We must always be ready to pick up new supporters and show them that there is a better choice this election.  Let your friends and family know about Barbara Howe.  It is absolutely critical though that we continue to maintain our status as an official party by receiving 2% of the vote.  On November 6th, we anticipate a strong showing for the Libertarian party, possibly one of the best yet!

This fight isn’t over on November 7th.  The Libertarian Party of North Carolina is becoming more organized and growing by the day.  We appreciate all your help and are excited to continue to grow this movement with you.  If you’d like to volunteer, please take a minute to fill out this form too:
